Armadillidium "Gestroi"

Armadillidium gestroi is a visually striking terrestrial isopod species commonly kept as a pet and display isopod in bioactive or species-specific enclosures. They occupy the surface layer of the substrate and leaf litter, where they consume decaying plant matter and organic debris, contributing secondarily to nutrient recycling.

In captivity, A. gestroi requires a well-ventilated enclosure with a clear moisture gradient, favoring slightly drier conditions compared to tropical species. A calcium-rich substrate, abundant leaf litter, and cork bark hides are essential for proper molting and long-term health. Due to their moderate reproductive rate and preference for stable conditions, they are best suited for dedicated display setups rather than use as a primary cleanup crew or feeder species.
